Welcome to Pequannock Township, NJ

The Township of Pequannock is located in Eastern Morris County, along State Highway Route 23, approximately 5 miles north of the interchange of Route 23 with Interstate Routes 1-80 and U.S. Route 46. Interstate Route 287 crosses the northwest corner of the Township, with a full interchange just north of the Township in the Borough of Riverdale. The Township is a political subdivision of the State of New Jersey and encompasses two communities, Pequannock and Pompton Plains, each served by their own post office. The Township is primarily residential with a population of 14,506 residents (latest available - 2003 U.S. Bureau of the Census estimate). It covers a land area of just under 7 square miles.

Recorded history of the Township dates to 1695 when the area was originally settled. The Township of Pequannock was incorporated in 1740, making it older than our nation itself. Population growth was greatest during the 1950's during which time the population more than doubled. During the early 1990's a Planned Residential Development known as "The Glens" was constructed adding 583 town houses, coach homes and condominium apartments to the housing stock of the Township.

Cedar Crest Village, a 1,500 unit Continuing Care Retirement Community is more than half complete.  The development is located in the Northwest corner of the Township, off of Route 23, across from the Home Depot.  Full development of the project is slated for 2007.  The residents of Cedar Crest have become and active and integral part of our Community.

Commercial development includes two well defined local business centers, Pompton Plains and Pequannock, as well as regionally-oriented retail commercial development along Route 23. Municipal sewers have been constructed through the Pequannock business district which has already spurred some redevelopment of that area. There are several established industrial areas in the Township including a ten lot Industrial Park. To date, nine of these lots have been developed or are currently under construction.

The Township's transportation needs are well served by State Highway Route 23 which connects with Interstate 287; and Interstate 80 and U.S. 46, both major east-west arteries into New York City which is 25 miles away. Railroad passenger service is provided from nearby Lincoln Park into New York City via NJ Transit and PATH. Bus service is available along the NJ TRANSIT lines extending along the Newark-Pompton Turnpike through the Township to Newark and New York. Local transportation needs for Senior Citizen and Disabled residents are provided by a Regional Dial A Ride service administered by Pequannock Township.
