Mayor Edward G. Engelbart
(12/31/2010)

Dear Township of Pequannock Residents and Visitors,

Welcome to the Township of Pequannock's World Wide Web Site.  The technology available to us today is amazing.  It is now at our finger tips  to access those things that influence us with respect to our local town government and those things that are happening in our township.  It is also a source of information - past to present - about a township that began in 1740- 270 years ago.  Much has changed in those years when Pequannock began as a small farming community made up of a few hundred residents spread over an area once 176 square miles from today's smaller community of 7 square miles.  Tremendous change and improvement has taken place.  What would our town's "founding residents" think if they were here today?

The changes are seen not only in new technology, but in the recent changes that have occurred in our community - the installation of new concrete/brick sidewalks and decorative lighting along the Newark-Pompton Turnpike that creates a historic streetscape; improvements to town parks at Greenview, Washington and Hillview Parks and the creation of a dog park at Foothills Park; the purchase of land for Open Space and flood plain protection; the installation of new sewers; the purchase of new fire fighting and first aid equipment for our fire and first aid volunteers; the restoration of the historic 1872 Pompton Plains Railroad Station; the rebirth of a lively senior citizen program; improvements to commercial businesses, and the building of many new homes and improvements to existing homes; and the completion of the Cedar Crest Village Retirement Community.  We welcome these improvements and changes for the better.

If you are new to Pequannock Township or a long-time resident, I give you a warm welcome on behalf of the Town Council and various town employees who serve the people of our township.  We hope you will join in the many public and private activities and amenities offered by our community.

We welcome all - new and current residents - to our community that has many citizens willing to volunteer for civil and other community activities and needs.  We hope you will join them and become part of a township that has a 270 year heritage of pride in community participation and contributions to our township, our county, our state and our nation.

New community welcome signs and banners have been erected as symbols of pride in our town's long history.  They proclaim to one and all a greeting to visit our community, patronize its businesses, participate in its civic and private institutions, partake in our past successes, and be a part of what we hope will be a prosperous future.

Ed Engelbart, Mayor
Township of Pequannock
