Mayor’s Message - January 2018

On behalf of the Pequannock Township Council, I would like to extend a warm welcome to our newly appointed Township Manager, Adam Brewer.  Adam is an experienced leader with strong management, communication and collaboration skills.

This past spring the Township Council, which unanimously voted to appoint Adam, conducted an extensive search and interviewed numerous candidates in order to identify an individual to fill the position.  The Council ultimately determined that hiring Adam would put the Township in the best possible position to deal with the concerns and challenges that face the community now and in the future. It was very important to find someone who understood what Pequannock Township is like, how much heart and soul residents have and how invested they are in this town. I trust we found that person.

It’s hard to believe that Adam only started a month ago. He has already interacted with many of Pequannock’s residents.  In addition to getting to know his department leaders and township employees, he has been meeting with the boards and commissions and each Township Council member to acquaint himself the many projects underway such as the new Mountain Avenue water tank, the FEMA map appeal and the Home Elevation projects, just to name just a few.

Looking to the township’s finances, I am pleased that the municipal budget for 2018 was introduced and passed unanimously by the Council without questions or objections from any resident. The budget, which included a 1% increase in the tax rate and a $50,000 increase in the tax levy, also includes an increase in the use of fund balance to cover the cost of re-codification of the Township ordinances, a master plan and a revaluation, all one time projects which are scheduled over the next few years.    The Council takes pride in its efforts to prudently manage expenses but encourages all residents to become aware of the budget process so they understand how their tax dollars are being spent.  If you cannot attend Township Council meetings, you can always catch-up by viewing them on youtube by clicking here:
