(Mayor 1/1/2018 - 12/31/2018)

Mayor’s Message - January 2018

I am honored to have been selected as Mayor of the Township of Pequannock for the year 2018. Here in the Township of Pequannock the Mayor presides over meetings of the Township Council, and makes appointments to important boards and commissions including the Board of Trustees of the Public Library, the Planning Board, the Shade Tree Commission and the Environmental Commission.

The Mayor in our form of government is a member of the Township Council. As Mayor, I participate in council activities as a full member, equal to all other members of the Council. The Council is responsible for setting policy for the Township and for the financial position of the municipality, establishing the annual budget so that service and program priorities (such as police, fire and emergency services) can continue to be delivered at a reasonable cost.  Decisions of policy, and approval of operating and capital budgets are made by passing ordinances and resolutions which are adopted by a majority vote of Council members at a meeting that is open to the public.

The executive and administrative matters of the Township are the responsibility of the Township Manager. The Manager is responsible for the day to day operations of the Township, carrying out the policies established by the Council, negotiating contracts, and advising the Council on matters of policy. Since 2009, this position has been filled by Mr. David Hollberg who has worked diligently alongside the Council to deliver township services at a high level of quality and reasonable cost.  One of the most important actions of the Council this year will be the appointment of a new manager. My fellow Councilmembers and I have begun this process and we look forward to the challenge of selecting and working with a manager who will demonstrate the same level of skill and dedication to the Township of Pequannock Mr. Hollberg has shown.

On a personal note – as the New Year unfolds for me, it marks the conclusion of my second term as council member serving the citizens of the Township of Pequannock.  It has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.  I have been able to make important contributions towards shaping the future of our community. I have learned to be a better communicator. Most of all I have learned that what separates a good town from a great town is teamwork and what distinguishes the Township of Pequannock from many towns is the strong backbone of volunteerism.  I am continually amazed at and grateful for the hours of personal time that residents of our town put towards serving others.

All my best for 2018 and if you ever have an issue you would like to discuss, please feel free to reach out to me directly.
