I would like to address this message to our community to mark my last month as Mayor and my eighth year as a member of the Pequannock Township Council. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as your Mayor and I leave the position with a great sense of pride and satisfaction. We have had some outstanding successes and I feel confident that I am leaving Council in an outstanding position.
I am proud of our accomplishments. They include the purchase of the Martin Berry House, which will be preserved for future generations to enjoy and learn about our history. The external funding secured to assist those who live in the flood prone areas to remain safely in their homes was a huge accomplishment and could not have been done without the many hands that worked on the project. I hope that you will soon see a brand new website that will help residents find all the services provided by their hard-earned property taxes.
One of the most important accomplishments of the Council this past year was the hiring of Adam Brewer, our new Township Manager. This was a significant task because it is the Township Manager, rather than the Township Council, who runs the township on a day-to-day basis. Following an extensive search the Township Council appointed Mr. Brewer last spring. After only a few months, I am confident we made the right choice. He is responsive, energetic and full of sound ideas for the future of Pequannock Township.
I would like to thank the many volunteers, Township employees and the past and present members of the Township Council I have worked with each day of my 8 years in local government. It has been an honor to serve alongside of you for the betterment of our community.
Finally and most importantly, I would like to thank the entire community of Pequannock Township; you have all helped me grow in ways I could not have imagined and I am confident I am better prepared for the next chapter in my life.
Serving on Township Council has allowed me to meet so many wonderful people and I am truly touched by the meaningful and responsive volunteerism that takes place within our little seven square mile town.
Thanks again for giving me the opportunity to work for you in this role. It has been an absolute privilege.
Mayor Catherine F. Winterfield
