Marijuana Arrest:  On September 8, 2017 at 6:59 p.m., Ptl. Vincent LaManno responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Jackson Avenue and Evans Place.  The caller advised that the occupants of the vehicle appeared to be involved in a possible drug transaction.  Ptl. LaManno located the car and conducted a motor vehicle stop and made contact with the occupants.  During their conversation, the officer smelled what he recognized to be the odor of marijuana in the vehicle and on the driver and passenger.  After a brief investigation, a glass pipe and a small amount of suspected marijuana were located.  Jayson F. McMurray, 18 years old from Pompton Plains, was arrested, transported to headquarters and processed.  Mr. McMurray was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.  Jonathan Zuniga-Kelly, 19 years old from Pompton Plains, was also arrested.  He was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana.  Both individuals were released on their own recognizance and have pending municipal court appearances.

DWI Arrest:  On September 8, at 8:23 p.m., Ptl. Vincent LaManno responded to a report of a hit and run accident on Route 23 North.  Upon his arrival, Ptl. LaManno spoke with the occupants of the vehicle that was struck.  These individuals provided a description and license plate of the suspect vehicle.  This information was immediately disseminated to surrounding police agencies.  Ptl. Kennedy of the Butler Police Department was able to locate the suspect vehicle when he observed it parked and the operator inspecting the car for damage.  Ptl. LaManno responded to the location of the traffic stop in Butler and spoke with the driver.  During their conversation, the driver exhibited several signs and behaviors consistent with alcohol impairment.  After a brief investigation, Vincent Barone, Jr., 53 years old from Wayne, was arrested, transported to headquarters and processed.  Mr. Barone was charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident.  He was released to a third party and has a pending court appearance.
