DWI Arrest: On February 4, 2018 at 1:03 a.m., Ptl. Christopher Mc Ivor was patrolling Route 23 North when he observed a vehicle that was failing to maintain its lane. Ptl. Mc Ivor stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver. During their conversation, the officer made several observations that led him to believe that the operator was under the influence of alcohol. After performing several field sobriety tests, Luigi Figurelli, 38 years old from West Milford, was arrested, transported to headquarters and processed. Mr. Figurelli was charged with careless driving, failure to maintain a lane and driving while intoxicated. He was released to a third party and has a pending appearance in municipal court.
Hindering Arrest: On February 3, 2018 at 4:12 p.m., Ptl. Kevin Boone observed a vehicle traveling on Route 23 North with several items hanging from the rear view mirror. Ptl. Boone stopped the car and made contact with the occupants. During the traffic stop, the driver provided false information as to his identity. When his identity was confirmed, it was learned that his driver’s license was suspended and he was the subject of several outstanding arrest warrants. Tomasz Koc, 33 years old from Wallington, was arrested, transported to headquarters and processed. Mr. Koc was charged with hindering his own apprehension, obstructed view, driving while suspended, failure to exhibit a driver’s license, following too closely and possession of open alcohol container in a motor vehicle. He was turned over to the Garfield Police Department due to the outstanding warrants.
Heroin Arrest: On February 4, 2018 at 12:00 p.m., Ptl. Jack Lyon observed a disable vehicle at the intersection of Alexander Avenue and Route 23. Ptl. Lyon pulled alongside of the van and observed a male in the driver’s seat, asleep with a vaping instrument hanging from his mouth. Ptl. Lyon positioned his vehicle behind the van and made contact with the driver. The driver stated that he was waiting for assistance with starting his vehicle. During their conversation, the officer observed a bag containing several hypodermic syringes in the van. After a brief investigation and search of the vehicle, 19 glassine envelopes containing suspected heroin, 15 empty glassine envelopes and other drug paraphernalia were located. Evan T. McManus, 31 years old from Pompton Plains, was arrested, transported to headquarters and processed. Mr. McManus was charged with possession of heroin, possession of a hypodermic syringe and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on his own recognizance and has a pending court appearance.
