Multiple CDS Arrests: On December 30, 2018 at 11:29 p.m., Ptl. Christopher Nelson was patrolling Route 23 North in the area of Newark Pompton Tpke. At that time he observed a grey Volvo sedan traveling north that was unable to maintain its lane. Ptl. Nelson conducted a traffic stop and contacted the operator and passengers. During his conversation with the occupants, Ptl. Nelson detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the car. Ptl. Nelson removed the occupants and observed a suspected marijuana cigarette in plain view. After further investigation, officers located another suspected marijuana cigarette on the roadside which passenger, Shakur Al Damani Rowe, 18 years old of Orange, N.J. stated he discarded as they were being pulled over. A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded the discovery of more suspected marijuana, several items of suspected drug paraphernalia and a pill that is suspected to be suspected Vyvanse, a scheduled II controlled dangerous substance. These items were located in the possession of the operator, Sofia Espindola, 19 years old of Montclair, N.J. An open container of alcohol was also located in the car during the search. Mr. Rowe, Ms. Espindola and a third passenger, Irie Jason Williams, 18 years old of West Orange, N.J. were all placed under arrest and transported to Police Headquarters for processing. Mr. Rowe and Mr. Williams were charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and released pending a scheduled court date at the Pequannock Township Municipal Court. Ms. Espindola was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to maintain a lane, and open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle. She was released with a scheduled court date at the Morris County Superior Court.
