DWI Arrest: On January 24, 2019 at 11:31 p.m., Ptl. Matthew Ackerman and Ptl. James Dericks were on patrol of Route 23 in the area of Newark Pompton Tpke. At that time, Ptl. Ackerman observed an SUV traveling south on Route 23 without its headlights illuminated. Ptl. Ackerman conducted a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle, a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse. Ptl. Ackerman then contacted the operator, later identified as Jennifer Johnson, 41 years old of Wayne, N.J. Ptl. Ackerman observed signs of alcohol consumption and removed Ms. Johnson from her vehicle. He and Ptl. Dericks then conducted field sobriety tests on Ms. Johnson and she was subsequently placed under arrest. Ms. Johnson was transported to Pequannock Police Headquarters for processing where she was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to consent to breath samples, failure to have headlights illuminated, and careless driving. She was released to a third party and has a scheduled court date at the Pequannock Municipal Court.
