Marijuana Arrests: On October 1, 2017 at 11:17 a.m., Ptl. Kevin Boone observed a vehicle traveling on Route 23 North with an obstructed license plate. Ptl. Boone stopped the car and made contact with the occupants. During their conversation, the officer smelled what he recognized to be the odor of raw marijuana emanating from the interior of the vehicle. After a brief investigation, a small amount of suspected marijuana and several items of drug paraphernalia were located. Jonathan Diaz, 33 years old from Pequannock, was arrested, transported to headquarters and processed. Mr. Diaz was charged with having unclear license plates, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Jason L. Rowell, 28 years old from Lodi, was also arrested. Mr. Rowell was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both individuals were released on their own recognizance and have pending court appearances.
Accident with DWI Arrest: On September 30, 2017 at 4:19 a.m., Ptl. Matthew Halligan responded to investigate a report of a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Jacksonville Road and Sunset Road. Upon his arrival, Ptl. Halligan observed that a vehicle had left the roadway and struck a tree. Officers secured the scene and rendered medical assistance to the driver of the vehicle. During their conversation, the officer observed several indications that the driver may be under the influence of an intoxicating substance. Shannon D. Becker, 26 years old from Pompton Plains, was transported to Morristown Medical Center by ambulance for minor injuries. There, she was charged with failure to keep right, reckless driving and driving while intoxicated. She has a pending appearance in municipal court.
DWI Arrest: On September 30, 2017 at 1:41 a.m., Ptl. Sean Higgins observed a vehicle traveling on Route 23 North without any headlights illuminated. Ptl. Higgins stopped the car and made contact with the driver. During their conversation, the officer observed several indications that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. After performing several field sobriety tests, Kevin F. Floersch, 58 years old from Highland Lakes, was arrested, transported to headquarters and processed. Mr. Floersch was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and failure to use headlights. He was released to a third party and has a pending court appearance.
