Possession of Marijuana Arrest:  On November 25, 2017 at 1:55 a.m., Ptl. Cesar Hurtado observed a vehicle traveling on Route 23 with a license plate lamp that was not working.    Ptl. Hurtado stopped the car, spoke with the occupants and smelled what he recognized to be the odor of burnt marijuana emanating from the car.  A search of the vehicle was conducted and a suspected marijuana cigarette, a small jar containing suspected marijuana, two glass pipes, two packs of rolling papers and a cigar were located.  Louis J. Mancini, 23 years old from Verona was arrested, transported to headquarters and processed.  Mr. Mancini was charged with failure to maintain lamps, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.  He was released on his own recognizance and has a pending court appearance.

Drug Arrests:  On November 25, 2017 at 10:56 a.m., Ptl. Jack Lyon observed a vehicle traveling on Route 23 with a license plate lamp not working.  Ptl. Lyon stopped the car and made contact with the occupants.  After a brief investigation, it was discovered that one of the occupants was the subject of an active arrest warrant.  During a search, hypodermic syringes, glassine envelopes containing suspected heroin, a bent spoon and a pipe were located.  Michael P. Murray 26 years old from Port Jervis, NY, was arrested transported to headquarters and processed.  Ms. Murray was charged with possession of a hypodermic syringe, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to maintain lamps.  She was released on her own recognizance.  Donald C. Ostrom, 25 years old from Port Jervis, NY was also arrested.  He was charged with possession of heroin, possession of a hypodermic syringe and possession of drug paraphernalia.  He was remanded to the Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail. 

Heroin Arrest:  On November 25, 2017 at 2:03 p.m., Ptl. Jack Lyon ran a random license plate check on a vehicle that was traveling on Route 23 South.  The check revealed that the registered owner’s driving privilege was suspended.  Ptl. Lyon stopped the car and made contact with the occupants.  During their conversation, the female passenger provided false information as to her identity to the officer.   Once her correct name was discovered, it was learned that she was the subject of an active traffic warrant, was wanted by the Sussex County Sheriff’s Department for a probation violation and was listed as a missing person.  A subsequent search yielded several empty cocaine vials, five hypodermic syringes, several glassine envelopes containing suspected heroin and a pipe commonly used to ingest crack cocaine.  Kimberly VanTassel, 34 years old from Vernon, was arrested, transported to headquarters and processed.  Ms. Van Tassel was charged with possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of hypodermic syringes, and hindering her own apprehension.  She was remanded to the Morris County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail. 

Marijuana Arrest:  On November 24, 2017 at 2:19 p.m., Ptl. Jack Lyon observed a vehicle traveling on Route 23 North with an expired registration.  Ptl. Lyon stopped the car and made contact with the driver.  During their conversation, the officer smelled what he recognized to be the odor of raw marijuana emanating from the interior of the car.  After a search, a small amount of suspected marijuana, a suspected marijuana cigarette and a glass pipe were located.  Kimberly A. Miller, 30 years old from West Milford, was arrested, transported to headquarters and processed, Ms. Miller was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and having an expired registration.  She was released on her own recognizance and has a pending court appearance.
