DWI Arrest: On March 17, 2018 at 5:15 a.m., Ptl. James Dericks responded to Tiff’s Restaurant located on Route 23 South to investigate a report of an abandoned vehicle on a snow bank. Ptl. Dericks arrived on scene and was approached by a male. After a brief investigation and conversation, it was determined that this individual was the operator of the vehicle and was under the influence of alcohol. After performing several field sobriety tests, Gabriel Santana, 24 years old from Pequannock, was arrested, transported to headquarters and processed. Mr. Santana was charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident. He was released to a third party and has a pending municipal court appearance.
Marijuana Arrest: On March 17, 2018 at 1:08 p.m., Ptl. Jack Lyon performed a random license plate check on a vehicle that was traveling on Route 23 North. The check revealed that the registration of the vehicle was expired, the driver’s license of the registered owner was suspended and there was an active arrest warrant. Ptl. Lyon stopped the vehicle and made contact with driver. Once identified as the registered owner, he was placed under arrest for the warrant. A search discovered a small amount of marijuana and a pipe. William G. Hulighan, 51 years old from Sussex, was transported to headquarters and processed. Mr. Hulighan was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, expired vehicle registration and driving while suspended. He was released on his own recognizance and has a pending court appearance.
DWI Arrest: On March 18, 2018 at 12:11 a.m., Ptl. Christopher McIvor observed a vehicle being operated erratically on Route 23 North. Ptl. McIvor stopped the car and made contact with the driver. During their conversation, the driver exhibited several behaviors consistent with being under the influence of alcohol. After performing several field sobriety tests, Miriam Stepnowski, 43 years old from Pompton Plains, was arrested. Ms. Stepnowski was charged with failure to maintain a lane, careless driving and driving while intoxicated. She was released to a third party and has a pending court appearance.
