DWI Arrest: On September 13, 2018 at 12:30 a.m., Ptl. Cesar Hurtado responded to Route 23 at Jackson Avenue for the report of a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival of officers, they found a two car accident with a light standard down on top of a 2015 Toyota mini-van. They also observed a 2018 Porsche Panamera with heavy smoke coming from the frontend. The Porsche soon became fully engulfed in flames and the highway was partially shut down. Fire companies extinguished the fire and the Pequannock First Aid Squad rendered assistance to injured parties. Once the scene was secured, Ptl. Hurtado began his investigation of the accident and determined that the operator of the Porsche was, Gurwinder Singh, 33 years old of Westwood, N.J. Ptl. Hurtado reported that Mr. Singh displayed multiple signs of alcohol consumption and conducted field sobriety tests on him. At the conclusion of the tests, he was placed arrested and was transported to police headquarters for processing. Mr. Singh was subsequently charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, being an unlicensed driver, and making an improper u-turn. He was released to a third party and has a scheduled court date at the Pequannock Municipal Court.
CDS/Possession of Stolen Property Arrest: On September 14, 2018 at 11:56 a.m., Ptl. Kevin Boone was monitoring traffic on Route 23 North. At that time he observed a gray four door vehicle traveling north with an equipment violation. Ptl. Boone conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the operator and the passenger who was later identified as, Harry Kane, 43 years old of Paterson, N.J. Ptl. Boone reported that he immediately observed signs of controlled dangerous substance use in Mr. Kane. Upon further investigation, Mr. Kane admitted to possessing CDS and drug paraphernalia. Ptl. Boone located multiple folds of suspected heroin on Mr. Kane’s person and multiple items of drug paraphernalia in the vehicle that Mr. Kane stated were his. Ptl. Boone also located a wallet which contained identification and currency from a third party. After checking with the third party, it was learned that his vehicle was stolen in Hackensack, N.J., with the wallet inside the car. Mr. Kane was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to Pequannock Police Headquarters. He was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and receiving stolen property. He also had 10 active warrants out of Paterson, N.J. He was released to the Paterson Police Department with a scheduled court date at the Morris County Superior Courthouse for the Pequannock charges. The operator of the vehicle was issued a summons for failure to use lighted lamps when required.
DWI Arrest: On September 15, 2018 at 2:31 a.m., Ptl. Christopher McIvor was traveling on Route 23 South. At that time he observed a white sedan traveling in the right lane veer into the shoulder of the roadway. Additionally, he observed an equipment violation on the car. Ptl. McIvor conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in question and made contact with the driver, later identified as Christopher Pagano, 34 years old of Woodland Park, N.J. Ptl. McIvor reported that he immediately observed signs of alcohol consumption and Mr. Pagano stated that he had consumed alcohol. Mr. Pagano was removed from his vehicle for field sobriety tests. He was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters for processing. Mr. Pagano was charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving, failure to maintain a lane, and unclear plates. He was released to a third party and has a scheduled court date at the Pequannock Municipal Court.
CDS Arrest: On September 15 at 1:41 p.m., Ptl. Kevin Boone was at the intersection of Route 23 and Newark Pompton Tpke. in Riverdale. As he was waiting for the light to change, he observed a vehicle traveling above the speed limit slow drastically at the Pequannock/Riverdale boarder. At that time he made a check of the New York registration on the vehicle in question, which came back stolen out of New York City. Ptl. Boone made a felony stop of the 2001 Lexus with assistance for the Riverdale PD. The driver, later identified as Jhair Caldas, 23 years old of Fair Lawn, N.J., was removed from the car and placed under arrest. A search of Mr. Caldas revealed that he was in possession of suspected Suboxone sublingual film and drug paraphernalia. Mr. Caldas was transported to police headquarters for processing. He was charged with possession of CDS and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released with a scheduled court appearance at the Morris County Superior Court. The stolen vehicle was impounded and the victim was notified of its recovery.
