Marijuana Arrest:  On January 8, 2017 at 8:48 p.m., Sgt. Joseph Peters responded to the area of May and Highland Avenues to investigate a report of a suspicious vehicle.  While searching the area, Sgt. Peters observed a vehicle that matched the description provided by the caller.  The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop and made contact with the occupants of the vehicle.  During their conversation, the officer smelled what he recognized to be the odor of marijuana emanating from the car.  After a brief investigation, it was determined that there was one marijuana cigarette inside the vehicle.  Tyler N. Bockhorn, 19 years old from Pompton Plains, was arrested, transported to headquarters and processed.  Mr. Bockhorn was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.  He was released on his own recognizance and has a pending court appearance.
 
Stolen Vehicle Arrest:  On January 11, 2017 at 8:13 p.m., Ptl. Michael Kimak was monitoring traffic on Route 23 South in the area of Jackson Avenue when the Automated License Plate Reader in his vehicle alerted him to a stolen vehicle.  Ptl. Kimak identified the vehicle in question, a 2016 Nissan Frontier pickup truck, and conducted a traffic stop.  The status of the vehicle was confirmed as stolen by the Montclair Police Department and the driver was taken into custody.  Gerard P. Sclafani, 56 years old from Bloomfield, was arrested, transported to headquarters and processed.  Mr. Sclafani was charged with receiving stolen property and was remanded to the Morris County Correctional Facility.
 
DWI Arrest:  On January 14, 2017 at 3:09 a.m., Ptl. Jeffrey Jones was at the intersection of Alexander Avenue and Route 23 when he observed a vehicle in the jug handle on the eastern side of the highway.  The officer then observed the vehicle fail to move during two complete green cycles of the traffic signal.  After positioning his car behind the vehicle in question, the officer then observed the vehicle slowly begin to drive and turn south onto Route 23.  The officer then stopped the car and made contact with the driver.  During their conversation, the driver exhibited several behaviors consistent being intoxicated.  After performing several field sobriety tests, Marion Candelaria-Sina, 51 years old from Bogota, was arrested, transported to headquarters and processed.  Ms. Candelaria-Sina was charged with careless driving and driving while intoxicated.  She was released to a third party and has a pending court appearance.
