Brian C. Spring
Chief of Police
Chief Spring has been with the department since 1986. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1993 and served as a Patrol Supervisor. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1996, and served as the Detective Bureau Commander and then as the Operations officer for the department, prior to being appointed Chief of Police in March of 2004. He was born and raised in Pompton Plains and graduated from Lynchburg College, Virginia, in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. He graduated from Jersey City State University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. He is a 1998 graduate of the West Point Command and Leadership Program. In 1999 he graduated from the State of New Jersey Certified Public Manager program. In 2001 he graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a Master's degree in Administrative Science. Captain Edward T. Leonard
As the second in command of the police department, Captain Leonard serves as the Operations Officer. He has been a resident of Pompton Plains since 1950 and attended William Patterson University prior to serving in Vietnam with the United States Army. He joined the department in 1980 and has served as a Patrol Sergeant and the Commander of the Patrol Division. Lieutenant Daniel R. Dooley
Currently in charge of the Patrol Division and the Community Services Bureau, Lieutenant Dooley joined the department in 1989. He has served as a patrol officer, detective, juvenile officer and D.A.R.E. officer. In 1996, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant as a Patrol Supervisor. In 2004, he was promoted to Lieutenant. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Montclair State College in 1989 in Industrial Education, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Jersey City State College in 1992 in Criminal Justice. In 2000 he received a Masters degree in Business Administration from California Coast University. He is a 1998 graduate of the West Point Command & Leadership Program. In 2006, Lieutenant Dooley graduated from the State of New Jersey Certified Public Manager program. Lieutenant Daniel F. Balunis
Currently commanding the Detective Bureau, Lieutenant Balunis joined the department in 1982 and was transferred to the Detective Bureau in 1989. He is responsible for overseeing all criminal investigations and is also the department's Internal Affairs officer.
