CDS Arrest: On September 30, 2016 at 12:27 p.m., Ptl. Jack Lyon observed the driver of a motor vehicle traveling on Route 23, throw debris from the vehicle. Ptl. Lyon stopped the car and made contact with the occupants. During the officer's conversation, the passenger of the car deliberately misidentified herself. As a result of the investigation, several hypodermic syringes were located along with several pieces of drug paraphernalia. Christine M. Bolitho, 30 years old from Dover, was arrested, transported to headquarters and processed. Ms. Bolitho was charged with possession of hypodermic syringes, possession of drug paraphernalia and hindering her own apprehension. She was turned over to the Morris County Sheriff's Office on an outstanding warrant.
Marijuana Arrest: On September 30, 2016 at 11:09 a.m., Ptl. Kenneth Hunt performed a random records check on a vehicle that was traveling on Route 23 and learned that its registration was expired. Ptl. Hunt stopped the vehicle and made contact with the occupants. During their conversation, the officer smelled what he recognized to be the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. After a brief investigation a small amount of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia were discovered. As a result, the driver, Peter J. Scarpulla, 28 years old from Mahwah, was arrested, transported to headquarters and processed. Mr. Scarpulla was charged with having an expired vehicle registration, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to notify MVC of an address change and possession of CDS in a motor vehicle. He was released on his own recognizance and has a pending court appearance.
DWI & CDS Arrest: On October 1, 2016 at 12:42 a.m., Ptl. Kevin Ricciardi observed a vehicle parked in the Virginia Plaza parking lot with one tire on the curb, its hazard lights activated, the rear windshield wiper on and the engine running. Ptl. Ricciardi approached the vehicle and observed several small plastic bags near the center console. As the driver's side window was already open, the officer also detected the odor of what he recognized to be the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the interior. The operator of the car was asleep in the driver's seat. Upon being woken up, the driver exhibited several signs and behaviors consistent with being under the influence of alcohol. After performing several field sobriety tests, Jose R. Cordero, 59 years old from Sussex, was arrested at the scene. A subsequent search of Mr. Cordero and the vehicle revealed some drug paraphernalia and a small amount of suspected cocaine. Mr. Cordero was charged with careless driving, driving while intoxicated, possession of CDS in a motor vehicle, possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released to a third party after processing and has a pending court appearance.
CDS Arrest: On October 1, 2016 at 9:48 p.m., Ptl. Matthew Halligan was dispatched to respond to Elizabeth Avenue near the Boulevard to investigate a call for assistance. Upon his arrival, Ptl. Halligan located the female caller who stated that she was lost and needed a ride home. The woman appeared to be intoxicated and was having difficulty communicating with the officer. After speaking with the woman for several minutes, she requested that officers transport her to the nearest bus terminal. The woman agreed to be searched before being placed in a police vehicle and transported. During the search of her pocketbook, three pipes with suspected CDS residue were located along with a few other pieces of associated drug paraphernalia and two prescription pills. As a result, Donna M. Mitortando, 46 years old from Bayonne, was arrested, transported to headquarters and processed. Ms. Mitortando was charged with possession of CDS and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released and has a pending court appearance.
