DWI Arrest:  On February 10, 2017 at 3:23 p.m., Ptl. Matthew Levine was dispatched to investigate a report of a motor vehicle accident on Route 23 North.  Upon his arrival, the officer confirmed that there were two vehicles involved and that one vehicle had struck the other in the rear as it was merging onto the highway.  In speaking with the driver that had struck the car in front of him, the officer observed several behaviors consistent with alcohol impairment.  After a brief investigation at the scene, Richard Kreidel, 68 years old from Haskell, was arrested, transported to headquarters and processed.  Mr. Kreidel was charged with reckless driving and driving while intoxicated.  He was released to a third party and has a pending appearance in court.

CDS Arrest:  On February 11, 2017 at 12:11 p.m., Ptl. Matthew Levine observed a vehicle being operated erratically while patrolling West Parkway.  The officer stopped the car and made contact with the occupants.  During their conversation, the officer smelled what he recognized to be the odor of raw marijuana emanating from the vehicle.  The driver was asked to exit the car and was observed attempting to conceal something between his legs.  After a brief investigation, a small bag of suspected marijuana, several rolling papers, two smoking devices, a vial of suspected anabolic steroids and a syringe were discovered.  Erik Joseph Zagra, 25 years old from Totowa, was arrested, transported to headquarters and processed.  Mr. Zagra was charged with possession of anabolic steroids, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a hypodermic syringe, failure to maintain a lane and possession of CDS in a motor vehicle.  He was released on his own recognizance and has a pending court appearance.

CDS Arrest:  On February 11, 2017 at 10:49 p.m., Ptl. William Juliano was flagged down by a passing motorist who advised him that she observed a man attempting to wake up a woman in a vehicle parked in the Virginia Plaza parking lot on Route 23.  The motorist stated that she offered assistance but the man declined.  Ptl. Juliano responded to the parking lot and observed the vehicle in question begin to attempt to exit the area.  The officer then signaled the driver to stop and asked if there was a female inside the vehicle due to the passenger’s seat being reclined.  The driver then was asked if the female was alright, to which he replied that he didn’t know.  Ptl. Juliano then checked on the female and found her to be unresponsive with shallow breathing and a blue face.  The officer then requested an ambulance and paramedics respond.  The driver then advised the officer that that the female had injected two bags of heroin in the parking lot.  Officers administered two doses of Narcan and the female was transported to Chilton Medical Center, responsive and alert.  A brief investigation at the scene discovered five wax folds of suspected heroin, a glass pipe, and a hypodermic syringe.  Brian Tagliaferro, 27 years old from Ringwood, was arrested, transported to headquarters and processed.  Mr. Tagliaferro was charged with possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a hypodermic syringe.  Per Bail Reform guidelines, he was released on his own recognizance and has a pending appearance in court.
