Eluding Investigation Culminates with Arrest:  As previously released on April 21, 2017, on April 17, 2017, Ptl. Kenneth Hunt observed a motorcycle being operated unsafely on Route 23.  Ptl. Hunt checked the registration and found that the license plate was not on file.  As the officer attempted to effect a traffic stop, the operator of the motorcycle fled.  As a result of a three week investigation that was assisted with information and cooperation from the public, Riverdale and Rockaway Borough Police Departments and the N.J. Motor Vehicle Commission, an arrest has been made.  Nicholas A. Valentino, 23 years old from Denville, was arrested on Wednesday, May 3, 2017.  During his arrest, Mr. Valentino was found to be in possession of a syringe and a substance suspected to be heroin.  In addition to the drug related charges, Mr. Valentino was charged with eluding police, improper passing, failure to stop, making an unsafe lane change, careless driving, reckless driving, operating a motorcycle without the proper endorsement, failure to have insurance, displaying a fictitious license plate and misuse of a license plate.  He was remanded to the Morris County Correctional Facility.  The Pequannock Twp. Police Department would like to thank those involved members of the public and fellow law enforcement agencies for their cooperation and assistance.  This investigation and resulting arrest would not have been successful without their help.  This is our department’s second successful eluding investigation that has led to an arrest in the last seven months.  We remain committed to having zero tolerance for individuals that refuse to stop for our police officers.  Their actions are dangerous to the motoring public, pedestrians and police.  We will continue to utilize any and all means at our disposal to arrest and prosecute these violators to the extent permitted by law.
