DWI Arrest: On October 10, 2017 at 11:52 p.m., Ptl. Michael Kimak observed a vehicle drifting across lanes of travel on Route 23 North. As Ptl. Kimak signaled the car to pull over, it came to a complete stop in the left lane of the highway. The officer then directed the operator to move the vehicle onto the shoulder of the road. During their conversation, the officer smelled what he recognized to be the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the passenger compartment of the car. After a brief investigation and the performance of field sobriety tests, Matthew B. Osterhoudt, 20 years old from Hillburn, NY, was arrested, transported to headquarters and processed. Mr. Osterhoudt was charged with underage possession of alcohol, being under the influence of CDS, driving while intoxicated, possession of an open alcohol container in a motor vehicle, failure to wear a seatbelt, failure to maintain a lane and reckless driving. He was released to a third party and has a pending appearance in court.
