DWI Arrest: On March 28, 2018 at 1:00 a.m., Patrolman William Juliano observed a vehicle on the shoulder of the roadway on Route 23 North just north of Alexander Avenue. Ptl. Juliano proceeded to pull behind the vehicle, identified as a gray Toyota pickup truck, to check on the driver. At this time the Toyota pulled back into traffic and continued on Route 23 North. As Ptl. Juliano continued to follow the pickup truck and he observed it being operated erratically. At this time Ptl. Juliano made a traffic stop and contacted the driver later identified as Paul Stumpf, 48 years of age, of Hewitt N.J. Through Ptl. Juliano’s investigation and after field sobriety tests it was determined that Mr. Stumpf was intoxicated and he was subsequently placed under arrest. Mr. Stumpf was transported to Pequannock Police Headquarters where he submitted to breath testing. He was processed and was subsequently charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Careless Driving, Failure to Maintain a Lane, and Driving With an Expired License. Mr. Stumpf was released to a third party and has a scheduled court date at the Pequannock Municipal Court.
