DWI Arrests: On April 19, 2018 at 9:00p.m. officers responded to an overturned motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 23 and Jackson Avenue. Upon officer’s arrival they found the female operator of a 2016 Kia sitting in the roadway next to her vehicle. Officers observed the operator, later identified as Darletta Rettino, 26 years of age of Leonia to be injured. Upon interviewing Ms. Rettino it was learned that as she was traveling on Route 23 South at the intersection of Jackson Avenue, she veered to the left, struck the center concrete barrier, struck the center traffic light standard and rolled her car over into the southbound lanes of traffic where it came to a rest. Due to striking the traffic light standard, it fell into the northbound lanes of traffic and landed on a 2012 Mercedes Benz that was traveling northbound. Officers on scene observed signs of intoxication while speaking with Ms. Rettino. She was subsequently arrested by Ptl. Jay Hardy and transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson N.J. for treatment by the Pequannock First Aid Squad. Ms. Rettino was charged with driving while intoxicated, careless driving and failure to keep right. She was given a court date at the Pequannock Municipal Court and released to the care of hospital staff. No other injuries were reported at the scene.
DWI Arrest: On April 19, 2018 at 9:48p.m. Ptl. James Dericks responded to a five car motor vehicle accident on Route 23 North prior to the intersection of Jackson Avenue. Upon Ptl. Dericks’ arrival he observed five cars in the roadway and was directed by a witness that a woman in a white Mini Cooper who was attempting to leave the scene. Ptl. Dericks subsequently made contact with the operator of the mini Cooper, Later identified as Karen Tang, 39 years of age of Haskell N.J. Upon speaking with Ms. Tang Ptl. Dericks observed obvious signs of intoxication. With assistance from Ptl. Vincent LaManno the traffic accident was also investigated where it was learned that Ms. Tang was unable to stop for slow traffic, due to a pervious accident at Route 23 and Jackson Ave. Ptl. Dericks conducted standard field sobriety tests on Ms. Tang and she was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Ms. Tang was transported to police headquarters where she submitted to breath tests and was processed. She was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and unsafe lane change. Ms. Rettino was released to a third party pending a first court appearance at the Pequannock Municipal Court. No other injuries were reported due to the traffic accident.
