CDS Arrests & Warrant Arrest: On January 5, 2019 at 11:27 a.m., Ptl. James Dericks and Ptl. Matthew Ackerman were monitoring traffic on Route 23 North. At that time, Ptl. Dericks observed a 2005 white Hyundai Sonata pass them with an equipment violation. The officers pulled from their location and observed the suspect vehicle make an improper lane change. At this time Ptl. Dericks conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot of the Amoco gas station on Route 23 North. Ptl. Dericks and Ptl. Ackerman contacted the driver and his passenger, later identified as Logan Tanis, 34 years old of Lafayette, N.J. During his conversation with the occupants, Ptl. Dericks located 64 glassine folds of suspected heroin in his pocket. Mr. Tanis was subsequently placed under arrest. A search of the vehicle yielded additional drug paraphernalia in the area where Mr. Tanis was seated. A check of Mr. Tanis showed that he had an active warrant out of Glen Rock, N.J. He was transported to the Pequannock Police Department where he was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Mr. Tanis was transported to the Morris County Jail with a scheduled appearance at the Morris County Superior Court.
