DWI Arrest: On April 20, 2019 at 11:04 p.m., Ptl. Cesar Hurtado was on patrol in the area of Jackson Ave and Newark Pompton Tpke. At that time, Ptl. Hurtado observed a vehicle traveling in his direction with its headlights off. Ptl. Hurtado made a U-turn, caught up to the suspect vehicle, a silver 2010 Chevy Silverado and conduct a motor vehicle stop. Ptl. Hurtado made contact with the driver, later identified as Joel Collins, 31 years old of Clifton, N.J. He observed that Mr. Collins displayed multiple signs of alcohol consumption and removed him from his truck. Mr. Collins was asked to perform field sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested upon the conclusion of the tests. He was transported to Pequannock Police Headquarters where he was processed and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Failure to Have Headlights Illuminated, and Careless Driving. He was released to a third party and has a scheduled court date at the Pequannock Municipal Court.
