Possession of CDS: On May 15, 2019 at 8:54 p.m., Ptl. James Dericks responded to the Quick Chek convenience store on Jackson Ave. for the report of a man who appeared to be intoxicated. Upon his arrival he located the accused individual, later identified as Jason Elsner, 43 years old of Pompton Plains, N.J. During his conversation with Mr. Elsner, Ptl Dericks observed several signs of him being under the influence of drugs. During a subsequent search of Mr. Elsner’s person, Ptl. Dericks located forty eight (48) glassine folds of suspected heroin. He was placed under arrest and was transported to the Pequannock Police Department for processing. Mr. Elsner was charged with Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Being Under the Influence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Driving While Suspended for Prior DWI Convictions, and Driving While Suspended. He was transported to the Morris County Jail with a scheduled appearance at the Morris County Superior Court.
DWI Arrest: On May 16, 2019 at 10:23 a.m., Ptl. Sean Higgins was monitoring traffic on Route 23 North when he was notified by a passing motorist that a 2012 Black Acura was being operated erratically. Ptl. Higgins located the black Acura near the intersection of Route 23 North and Newark Pompton Turnpike where he observed a traffic violation and conducted a motor vehicle stop. Ptl Higgins contacted the operator, later identified as William Schlegel, 44 years old of Bloomingdale, N.J. During his interview with Mr. Schlegel, Ptl. Higgins made several observations leading him to believe that Mr. Schlegel was impaired. He was asked to perform field sobriety tests and was placed under arrested upon the conclusion of the tests. He was transported to Pequannock Police Headquarters where he was processed and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Failure to Maintain a Lane, and Careless Driving. Mr. Schlegel was released to a third party and has a scheduled court date at the Pequannock Municipal Court.
