You may apply in the municipality where either applicant resides. Municipalities may have their own application process and we recommend you contact the local registrar of the municipality where you are applying for further detailed instructions. If both applicants live out of state you must apply in the New Jersey municipality where the ceremony is to be held.
Both applicants must present themselves at our office at their scheduled appointment time along with one witness who is at least 18 years of age. You will be required to complete an application, provide proof of residency, and pay a $28.00 application fee (cash or money order, personal checks not accepted). Once the Marriage/Civil Union License Application is completed and accepted by our office there is a minimum 72 hour waiting period before the license may be issued. Once issued the license will be valid for a thirty day period.
Anyone 18 years of age or older may apply for a license. If you are under 18 years of age we request you contact our office for special instructions.
