Garbage & Recycling Collection - COVID-19 Update

Garbage & Recycling collection schedules remain unchanged. There has been a significant increase in the volume of material being placed at the curb, potentially due to people staying home. This may result in a delay but material will likely be collected.

Through observation and discussions with the Township’s collection contractors, the amount of material being put out for garbage/solid waste, recycling and vegetative waste collection has increased dramatically.  In addition to people being home around the clock (as recommended - thank you) more material is likely being generated at home.  Additionally, with more people being home, opportunities to clean up and clean out are being taken advantage of throughout the Township.  Crews from the Township’s contractors are working later into the afternoon and early evening in an attempt to collect all the material.

If items are not collected, effort will be made to collect those items on a future collection day but please know that if an extraordinary amount of material is placed at the curb, e.g. lining the front a property due to the sale of a home, the material may not be collected for some time.  In addition to the occasional bulk item, the Township’s contract for the collection of garbage/solid waste includes each collection day to consist of two (2) thirty (30) gallon or equivalent containers of garbage/solid waste.  Other than the occasional bulk item, if you anticipate the need to dispose of an amount of garbage that significantly exceeds this amount, it is recommended that you contract with a collection contractor independently.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Health Department at 973-835-5700 ext.127 or the Township Manager at 973-835-5700 ext. 133.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
